Join us every Friday night at BYS for Kirtan: call and response chanting. Each week is led by a special guest kirtan leader. "The words of these chants are called the divine names and they come from a place that's deeper than our hearts and our thoughts, deeper than the mind. Nina Rao | May 11th, 8 - 10pm | Nina Rao learned traditional chants from her grandfather in a village in south India when she was nine. The chants quietly stayed with her until she rediscovered chanting with Krishna Das in New York in 1996. Most recently she recorded a track 'Nina Chalisa' on Krishna Das' CD "Flow of Grace - Chanting the Hanuman Chalisa". Keshav Das will join the kirtan to read from his recently released book 'Barefoot in the Heart' with previously untold stories of Maharaj-ji Neem Karoli Baba.

Divine Mother Kirtan | May 18th, 8 - 11pm | Join us for a very special THREE HOUR KIRTAN at BYS. Led by all your favorites: Nina Rao, Shyama Chapin, Ambika Cooper, Devadas and Lily Cushman. We will be chanting to the many aspects of the Divine Mother throughout the entire night. Doors open at 7:30p, come and go as you like. Jai Ma!!

Devadas | May 25th, 8 - 9:30pm | Devadas is a devotee of Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, and has been practicing the sadhana of bhajan, devotional singing, for more than a dozen years. He has recorded and performed with J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr., Wah and Krishna Das among others. To hear his music click here.

Jeremy & Lily | June 1st, 8 - 9:30pm | Lily and Jeremy have been making music for most of their lives, and together for over six years. Founders of the Brooklyn Yoga School, kirtan is a foundational part of their own path, and they consider it a great blessing to share the practice with others. To hear their kirtan, click here.
